FLYING SOLO COUNSELING
"Hope, help and healing are the goals of FLYING SOLO COUNSELING. I believe that, for many of us, it takes a great deal of courage to reach out for help, and I deeply appreciate how difficult it may be to take that first step. Our goal is to resolve whatever is troubling you, as quickly as possible. I feel truly humbled to be invited to share the pain, sadness, anger, ---the full range of feelings, ---as I work alongside children, teens, individuals and couples to find solutions for the concerns, problems or issues brought to our sessions."
Cheryl Klein, M. Div. Licensed Counselor
What are the basic theories used to help individuals with counseling issues? Strategies for healing emotional and psychological wounds and issues draw upon Rogerian insight therapy and, when relevant, interactive play (art, music, games) therapy.
Thanks for your interest in my website and counseling services. At the top of this page, you will find the additional pages and information offered, and hope you will not hesitate to contact me directly with any questions or concerns about the shape and form of counseling in my office.

Who sets the agenda for counseling sessions?
Counseling at FLYING SOLO is seen as a short-term endeavor; "lifetime" counseling is not a goal, though clients of all ages may complete a number of sessions, and then come back later when and as other issues arise. At FLYING SOLO, there is no "agenda" clients must follow; indeed, each client is encouraged to bring the issues, challenges, problems most important to each session. In each visit, we will put together the "puzzle" pieces of problems, issues and concerns, (and look at questions such as how did it begin, what has been tried in terms of resolving it), release pain and move forward, letting go of "emotional baggage." At FLYING SOLO, the counselor follows the "lead" of the client in determining what emotional, psychological or spiritual work will be the focus, offering a listening ear, compassion and guidance.
What kinds of issues, problems or concerns bring individuals to seek counseling at FLYING SOLO?
For adults, issues may be anxiety, abuse (past or current), bullying behavior (either perpetrator or victim), relationship difficulties, parenting or dealing with one's own parents, work-related conflicts, loss (of people, places or possessions), phobias or fears, depression, betrayal, divorce, self-esteem, trauma, and others. (Use of medication is the decision of each individual).
For teens, counseling often helps with peer issues, decision-making strategies, rules (at home, school, etc.), and enhances self-worth for educational and social settings, and other issues.
With children age 6 and older, goals of therapy may include ability to articulate feelings of anger and sadness in healthy, appropriate ways, resolving painful memories, enhancing attachment bonds, and other challenges.
What is the role of pastoral counseling at FLYING SOLO?
In addition to other modalities of assistance, FLYING SOLO offers pastoral counseling, using faith as both support and resource for healing from emotional, psychological and spiritual dilemmas. People of all faiths----little faith, lost faith, or even no faith!--- are welcomed, respected and supported in their search for solutions and resolution of concerns and difficulties. There is no interest in directing clients to specific worship settings, services or houses of worship, and counseling services are provided in a compassionate, non-judgmental manner.
Cheryl Klein, M. Div., serves on the faculty of York County Community College where she teaches courses in Ethics, World Religions and Sociology. She embraces a personal faith journey that celebrates the faith of Judaism, Christianity, Buddhism and Unitarian Universalism. No matter who we are, there are certain beliefs in which we put our faith. Sometimes this involves a "higher power" and sometimes it does not. Many clients cite no faith issues that have brought them to counseling, but simply a preference for this type of counseling professional.
What are the costs of counseling sessions?
FEES at FLYING SOLO vary. For office visits, most (but not all) insurance is accepted with co-pay fee required (cash or check) at time of visit; if insurance is not being used, a sliding scale is available, with a maximum fee of $125 per session. In general, the following insurance is accepted for office visits: Aetna, Anthem, Blue Cross & Blue Shield, Cigna, Harvard Pilgrim, Magellan, Value Options, Teamsters Behavioral Health, Martin’s Point (US Family Health Care---military). Other insurance may also offer out-of-network benefits. (Authorization, eligibility and benefits will be verified). Sorry, but Cheryl Klein is not a provider for MaineCare, MediCare or Medicaid.
