Cheryl Klein, M. Div., Licensed Pastoral Counselor (LPasC), DCC, grew up in Cincinnati, Ohio, graduating from Woodward High School and subsequently attending the University of Cincinnati, majoring in Design, Architecture and Art.
Some years later, after becoming a wife and mother, she returned to college and completed her education. After her divorce, she was the grateful recipient of loans, scholarships and other kinds of financial assistance allowing her to be a single Mom to her two children (now "grown and flown!") while earning both her undergraduate degree (California State University, Northridge, 1980) and graduate degree (Harvard University, 1984). Following ordination in 1984 and work as senior parish minister in a rural Maine town, Cheryl Klein moved into hospital chaplaincy and the social service arena, working with issues of domestic violence, unplanned pregnancy, literacy, suicide, mental illness and more.
In 1991, she became Adjunct Faculty at Saint Joseph's College, where she continues to teach graduate-level courses in Pastoral Counseling, Spirituality, Ministry with Family, and Ministry with Aging/Sick/Dying. Just a few years later, in 1997, Cheryl added two undergraduate courses, Ethics in Contemporary Society and Introduction to Sociology, taught online for York County Community College.
Licensed as a Pastoral Counselor in 1994, Cheryl Klein established a private practice in counseling in Biddeford, Maine, in 1998, moving her office to Windham, Maine, in 2000 where it remains active and busy.
In 2004, Cheryl Klein became the first licensed counseling professional in Maine, and 19th in the United States, to complete requirements for the Distance Counseling Credential (DCC).
Now a mother and grandmother, Cheryl continues to express her gratitude for all the people, and opportunities with whom she interacts, valuing the two-way process of teaching and counseling.
